3rd Quarter

As the 12th KL marches into the 3rd Quarter of 2008, there are some notable changes.

First, the spirit of the remaining Boys is coming into bloom, like a desert rose after a long drought. There is little or no chaff left, now. The Boys who are serious about bettering themselves still remain, but those who are only coming for some vague reason or other have fallen by the wayside. What remains is the core of solid Boys that will determine whether or not 12th KL survives in the years to come.

We are seriously lacking more senior membership, all we have in our pool are below 17. According to regulations, we can only advance Boys up to Sergeant, but these will only serve for under a year.  We need Boys from a school with Sixth formers. Where shall these come from?

The Boys were excited to recieve their latest awards. It’s too bad that our Enrolment Service will be at the end of the year — what a strange thing that is! Nevertheless, the Captain wishes to have the service in Church. We need more than financial support from the Church. All the strongest Coys I’ve seen are those with strong and active Church support.

Ah well. Coming into the 3rd Quarter, we will be focused mainly on physical and mental fitness. We will be having Basic Drill Award Class and Basic Physical Training. We’ll be following in part the British Royal Marines designed training (for civilians, not for the Marines!) and hopefully everyone will show significant improvement. We need to be fit for the Gunung Tahan Expedition! Samuel can take a break from teaching Drill on Saturdays, but will hopefully continue doing it (or Target) on Wednesdays.  Our aim – to start the 12th KL Honour Guard. We’ll see how it goes.

It was pleasant to find that most of the Boys were able to build a decent fire and tie most of the Basic Camping knots. The ones who had the most trouble are those who were not regular in attendance.

Matthew has dropped off the radar, and so has Joshua.  It is disturbing to note that the Boys we pinned the Faith duties on were the ones who slacked off. Reuben seems uncommited. It doesn’t seem as if he will stay. 12th KL’s pride is in how well Kathiravan and Yip Wei Zhi have turned out. Yip is still a little sloppy, but one finds it hard to fault his enthusiasm!

Till the next update.
